I started on Patriotic Angel sometime after I arrived here in Italy in 2006. I believe it was probably around March/April-ish but no idea of the exact date. I had gotten a large amount of her done then but set her aside for a long time. In March 2008 I decided to pick her up again and finish what was left, mostly the outlining on everything, the tent stitched background and the golden words.

The original piece is supposed to have the quote "We hold these truths..." in metallic gold thread in the background but I wasn't really liking how that looked. I was trying to think of something else to do when I realized that my cats had absconded with the golden thread. I still have no idea where it went. I'm sure we'll find it when we move....

But anyway, I liked her just fine without the words so I finished her up and went to have her framed. She ended up with matte borders in red, white and blue successively double the size of the last one. I believe the red is a 1/2", making the white 1" and the blue 2". The red and blue mattes are specialty suede and the white is just the plain cardstock-type.
